As part of our newly adopted structure within Clinical Coding Services an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Clinical Coding Service Lead who can inspire our team and drive continuous improvement across our clinical coding operational, audit and training services.

Flexible working and Home or remote working can be accommodated.

Reporting to the Senior Manager for Clinical Coding and Corporate Information you will be responsible for the leadership of the Clinical Coding Department. Delivering an effective service within the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

This role includes the direct line management of Deputy Clinical Coding Service Lead, Clinical Coding Audit Manager and the Clinical Coding Training Manager.

Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to ensure that patient activity data is fully and accurately coded within prescribed timescales, whilst adhering to national and local standards.

The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that all coding staff are fully trained, understand national coding updates and have their work regularly audited.

They will lead the department's improvement and engagement programme, ensuring that there are comprehensive and effective procedures in place and will implement efficient systems and processes to improve and maintain performance and quality standards.

The post holder will be the Trust's key clinical coding expert, possessing expert knowledge in clinical coding across all specialty and complexities with the ability to interpret, analyse and confidently discuss the outputs of clinically coded data, in particular mortality data, with senior clinicians.

They will represent the Trust on local and national clinical coding groups, providing expert advice and guidance. Working with the Senior Corporate Information and Coding Manager, the Clinical Coding Service Lead will progress and enhance the development of electronic clinical coding, using existing clinical systems.

  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification ACC
  • Masters level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Evidence of management development through Continuous Professional Development and/or formal management course

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience of managing/leading a Clinical Coding Team
  • Experienced in understanding NHS data and information management
  • Specialist coding knowledge underpinned by theory and experience in NHS activity delivery setting
  • Understanding of NHS information and Data Standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of Data Security & Protection Toolkit (DSPT) standards
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the impact of clinical coding on the NHS financial regime, financial flows and assurance framework
