Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated leader to provide professional, clinical, and managerial oversight of our midwifery services. The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of high-quality, effective, and safe care within the available resources.

As a key member of the senior midwifery leadership team, you will hold specific responsibilities for the labour ward, maternity triage, and the maternity bleep holder team.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team, including the directorate operations team and Lead Consultants for Labour Ward and Triage, to provide effective clinical leadership. Your responsibilities will encompass the establishment, monitoring, and maintenance of professional standards, particularly those related to conduct, clinical practice, and patient safety.

You will also play a pivotal role in fostering a culture within the maternity service that embraces and empowers innovation, creativity, and learning at both the team and departmental levels.

In addition, you will contribute to developing a service that values, respects, and enhances the diversity of the families we serve.

As a source of expert clinical knowledge for the labour ward and maternity triage teams, occasional clinical involvement may be required.

Your responsibilities will also include the line management of ward managers, labour ward coordinators, bleep holders, and specialists in midwifery.
