In this vital role, you will lead the implementation of our maternity retention strategy, working closely with the Practice Education team and Professional Midwifery Advocates to:

  • Elevate the Workplace:Enhance the overall experience of working within our maternity services, creating a supportive and thriving environment
  • Boost Retention:Develop and implement initiatives specifically designed to retain midwives at all stages of their careers - from preceptorship to early career and late career
  • Provide Pastoral Support:Offer compassionate pastoral care to our internationally recruited midwives, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community. Collaborate with specialist midwives and senior midwifery team members to ensure comprehensive support

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities of the Retention Midwife

As the Retention Midwife at the Northern Care Alliance, you'll lead the maternity retention strategy and support internationally trained midwives and learners. Your role includes:

  • Providing visible support and guidance
  • Sharing best practices across the Division, Trust, and region
  • Collaborating with Practice Development to ensure regulatory compliance and excellent educational support
  • Contributing to policy development related to placements, preceptorship, and professional development
  • Analysing data to evaluate activity and identify opportunities for improvement

You'll also:

  • Drive the implementation and maintenance of the maternity retention strategy
  • Contribute to the specialist midwives' clinical roster
  • Identify innovative solutions to enhance retention
  • Work with stakeholders to implement and evaluate retention initiatives
