Job summary

The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children will support all activities to ensure the organisation meets its statutory safeguarding responsibilities with regard to children and young people.

The post holder will provide leadership and assurance across the field of safeguarding children, seeking assurances from and holding to account services regarding their safeguarding responsibilities.

This post holder will manage a safeguarding team providing expert leadership of the safeguarding children agenda for Oldham Care Organisation . The post holder will provide access to a highly expert and supportive team approach for the children and young people from, and using services in Oldham Care Organisation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide expert highly specialist advice and support across the organisation on all safeguarding matters. They will provide the ADNS for safeguarding with support in implementing the safeguarding children agenda across the Northern Care Alliance.

Assist the Alliance in meeting its statutory duties and responsibilities relating to Safeguarding children and young people. This includes providing cover, where necessary, in the absence of named nurses from other localities.

  • Registered General Nurse Registered on Part 1 of the NMC.
  • Part 3 as a specialist community public health nurse having completed a specific programme with a child and family focus.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Have completed specific training in the care of babies / children and young people.
  • Have completed a post registration training in safeguarding Children including Law, Policy and Practice at post graduate Level.
  • Working towards Masters qualification in safeguarding or related subject or equivalent experience.
  • Training on the Mental Capacity act (MCA).

Desirable

  • Leadership or management course.

Experience

Essential

  • Have substantial safeguarding experience at Band 7 or above.
  • Significant experience related to caring for babies / children / young people and have an understanding of forensic matters.
  • Development of safeguarding pathways, standards and service models.
  • Experience of participating in undertaking and providing clinical and safeguarding supervision.
  • Experience in dealing with highly contentious and emotive information and advising on management of sensitive.
  • Extensive knowledge of national safeguarding policies.
