Job summary
Applications are invited for the 1-year post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Neuro-Oncology within the Department of Neurosurgery.
The Neuro-oncology Surgery Fellowship programme provides an excellent opportunity to join the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) and gain experience in all aspects of Oncological Neurosurgery. The successful applicant will support the clinical service of Neurosurgery at Salford Royal including on-call commitments.
The post of Neuro-oncology Fellow is designed as a 1-year post, suitable for a senior neurosurgical trainee wishing to gain experience in this particular subspecialty. This post is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons as part of the RCS Senior Fellowship scheme.
The Neurosurgical unit at the Salford Royal is one of the largest in the country, performing over 5000 procedures per year. The successful candidate would gain experience in all aspects of Neuro-Oncology practice. The candidate will be exposed to management of a full range of Neuro-Oncology pathology working closely with the rest of the Oncology MDT which is well-established and high-performing
Main duties of the job
Direct responsibility would be to the 5 Consultant neurosurgeons specialising in Neuro-Oncology, led by Ms Konstantina Karabatsou, working in conjunction with the rest of the multi-disciplinary team
Attendance at Neuro-Oncology clinics, theatre lists and MDT will be expected.
The post is designed for senior neurosurgical trainees, who intend to pursue a subspecialty interest in Neuro-Oncology at consultant level, or the equivalent for international applicants.
The post is paid at the equivalent of Registrar grade and includes participation in general neurosurgery on-call, which follows a full-shift 1 in 10 pattern.
You must have full registration with the GMC, although successful applicants without GMC registration will be supported in obtaining this.
