Senior Clinical Fellow - Lateral Skullbase Neurosurgery

Applications are invited for the 1 year post of Lateral Skull Base Fellow at Salford Royal Hospital commencing in August 2025

The Neurosurgical Unit in the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) at Salford Royal Hospital has one of the largest and busiest skull base teams in the country.

You would join this team with direct responsibility to the four skull base neurosurgical consultants, working in conjunction with the rest of the neurosurgical team. Other subspecialties that are represented within the unit include complex spine, functional, oncology and vascular neurosurgery, giving you experience in a busy, well-established and highly-performing unit.

It is a microsurgical fellowship, predominantly focusing on lateral skull base pathology, although we do undertake the full range of skull base approaches. The fellowship does not include any work with our endoscopic skull base colleagues, who run a stand-alone pituitary surgical fellowship

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for senior neurosurgical trainees or junior consultants with a clear and demonstrable interest in skull base surgery, and genuine prospects of being able to take up a consultant (or equivalent for international applicants) post with a skull base subspecialty practice following the fellowship. The post is paid at the equivalent of registrar grade. There will be some involvement in general neurosurgery, and a 1:11 on call as the second on call registrar (resident full shift rota), with a junior registrar as first on call.
