Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Therapy Assistant to join our busy elective orthopaedic unit based at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury.

We require an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent organisational and communication skills. The post is full time, and you should be able to work well within a team but also independently when required.

The successful candidate will provide support to the unit's therapy team (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy). The role includes assisting in the treatment of patients with trained members of staff, including pre-operative functional assessments, post-operative care including supervising exercises, assisting with functional activities e.g. dressing and assisting with mobility practice, as well as completing administrative duties. We offer a supportive environment for training and development.

Previous experience of working in an assistant role in either Health or Social Care is desirable.

Main duties of the job

Carry out pre-operative assessments for patients due to come in for elective surgery and request equipment.

Support physiotherapists and occupational therapists in rehabilitation of patients on the orthopaedic unit and maintain documentation required for these.

Demonstrate and work through exercises with patients

Monitor and order equipment stock for the unit.

Undertake associated administrative duties e.g., pre-operative assessments, ordering equipment, photocopying, completing referrals.

The department is working towards a 7-day model of service delivery and you will be expected to be flexible in terms of working patterns including weekends, bank holidays and extra hours if necessary.
