The role involves shift work during the week and weekends plus compulsory on call.
Save lives using the latest in technology by working in a fast paced environment that provides life altering interventions. For example; clot retrieval, restoring blood flow to the brain and potentially returning a patients speech or movement and now life saving vascular emergency procedures in the new state of the art Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital!
You will work in a multi-disciplinary team alongside radiologists, radiographers and aesthetics, to provide high quality care in a busy and demanding environment.
The role involves shift work during the week and weekends plus compulsory on call. For all on call shifts, you must live within 30 minutes travel time of the hospital or be prepared to stay in one of the on call suites on site. We also offer a priority taxi service if you have no other way of getting to the hospital for your on call shifts.
Working as an interventional radiology nurse you will be at the forefront of patient care, assisting in life-changing procedures and working to ensure the best possible outcome for patients.
Main duties of the job
The role of the interventional radiology nurse is to provide high quality nursing care to all of our patients and their relatives while they are within the radiology department by using clinical experience and enhanced skills. These include:
- scrub practitioner for a variety of different interventional procedures
- being familiar and handling specialist equipment used only in the radiology setting
- administration of IV conscious sedation and close patient monitoring
- pre and post care advice for patients within the interventional radiology setting
- working closely with radiology consultant, radiographers and aesthetic teams
- rotate between all areas of the radiology department including the angiography suite including the neuro-vascular bi-plane room, CT, ultra-sound procedures room and the new RAPTOR suite supervise student nurses and unregistered staff.
Interventional radiology nursing is continually expanding and is extremely varied. Within this role, you will be working with a range of patients from intensive care to outpatients, over a range of specialties examples including;
- Neurovascular intervention - subarachnoid hemorrhage and 24/7 dedicated thrombectomy service
- Renal vascular -dialysis fistulangioplasty, dialysis line insertions.
- Vascular trauma and emergencies - 24/7 dedicated service
- CT - Biopsies (Bone/Lung etc.)
- Ultrasound - Biopsy and drain insertion
A full training and orientation program will be provided and you must hold a NMC registration.
