Job summary

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist in the UKAS Accredited Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratories based at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

We are in an exciting time of development and change, following the formation of the Northern Care Alliance. You will help to ensure that service delivery continue to be quality driven and ensure care is of the high standard that we would expect for our patients.

The custom built, Central Service Laboratory serves The Royal Oldham Hospital and there are similarly equipped laboratories across the NCA. The department is in the process of installing replacement Sysmex XN haematology analysers and CN coagulation analysers within the departments across Haematology NCA. In addition, Tosoh G11 HPLC is in use for Haemoglobinopathy and Ortho Vision for Blood Transfusion. A new laboratory information management system will also be installed later in 2024.

Main duties of the job

You will be HCPC Registered , experienced in haematology and blood transfusion. The post holder will rotate through automated haematology, coagulation, blood morphology, haemoglobinopathy and blood transfusion undertaking duties appropriate to that of Band 5/Band 6 grade.

You will be committed to patient safety, improving and maintaining quality.The philosophy of the laboratory is to promote best practice and provide high quality services. The department is approved by the HCPC for training to state registration and is UKAS accredited (ISO 15189). CPD and further study is encouraged and supported. Band 5 staff automatically progress to Band 6 on successful completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma.
