Job summary

12 Month Fixed Term - Band 7 - 8b Psychologist (depending on experience and skills)

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified clinical psychologist (registered with the HCPC) to join the GI team within the department of Clinical Health Psychology Department at Salford Royal Hospital. The post is for 0.8 WTE. The post holder will provide psychological input to patients primarily with chronic GI conditions. An understanding of medical compliance issues and psychological adjustment to invasive medical procedures would be helpful.

Main duties of the job

Patients with chronic gastro/intestinal disorders, particular those with nutritional challenges, and patients with non-specific chronic abdominal pain. An interest in the psychological perspectives and challenges of GI conditions, such as, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel conditions, and the associated impact of treatments and surgical interventions would be advantageous

A key requirement will be to offer expertise in this field of Clinical Psychology to a multi-disciplinary team. Supervision/line management. Team working will also be integral to the role, including involvement in MDT meetings and regular liaison and joint working with professional colleagues to support of the wider medicals teams in relation to psychological aspects of care.

A commitment to provision of evidence-based health care is essential. An understanding of the psychological factors influencing physical health and delivery of health care would be desirable

Essential

  • The post holder must be able to satisfy the criteria for HCPC Registration for the advertised role.
  • BSc Psychology ( or equivalent recognised by BPS) and post-graduate doctorate training or statement of equivalence from BPS
  • Doctoral level training in Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychology

Skills and experience

Essential

  • An interest in working with people with a variety of health conditions
  • Evidence of an understanding of the required skills to formulate and appropriately design an intervention for individuals with chronic health conditions.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Clinical Heath Psychology Services (including placement as a trainee)
  • Training in approaches particularly valuable in health settings, such as, ACT, CFT, EMDR, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, including group based approaches where appropriate
  • Research experience or further doctoral training
