Job summary

Gastroenterology services are delivered as a single service between Bury, Rochdale and Oldham with Endoscopy units on each of the 3 sites and the Gastroenterology inpatient ward is based at Royal Oldham Hospital. Gastroenterology delivers an in reach service on the Royal Oldham and Fairfield General Hospital sites and the focus of this particular post is the in reach at Fairfield General Hospital. An opportunity is available in the In-Reach service at Fairfield General Hospital for an experienced doctor who can provide demonstrable expertise in Gastroenterology in order to deliver a high-quality independent service or manage complex cases with reference to a consultant. The post holder with be responsible, under the supervision of the consultant, for the day-to-day Gastroenterology input into the care of outlying elective and emergency patients on the Fairfield General Hospital site. The post holder will work and liaise with the colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to ensure an appropriate, professional and timely provision of care to patients.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity is available in the In-Reach service at Fairfield General Hospital an experienced doctor who can provide demonstrable expertise in Gastroenterology in order to deliver a high-quality independent service or manage complex cases with reference to a consultant. The post holder with be responsible, under the supervision of the consultant, for the day-to-day Gastroenterology input into the care of outlying elective and emergency patients on the Fairfield General Hospital site.

Opportunities to work with a consultant will be provided to ensure on-going requirements for professional development and education. Robust medical revalidation and appraisal systems exist across the Northern Care Alliance, through which you will be allocated an appraiser and undertake an annual appraisal.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  1. Need to support and teach juniors and medical students (we have regular medical students from Manchester university joining in reach ward rounds and virtual reviews of patients)
  2. We will support career progression by offering some endoscopy training once the post holder has been established in post for some months
  3. CESR application support
  4. Support keeping the gastro tracker up to date
  5. Triage and assessment of patients for inpatient Endoscopy
