Job summary

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and motivated Consultant in Clinical Haematology to complete our complement of a team of 7 consultants at The Royal Oldham Hospital. This is an existing post that has become available due to retirement. An interest in haematological malignancies is essential and developing subspecialty interest is desirable. Visits can be arranged for candidates in order to appreciate the quality of life our hospitals and the surrounding area can offer.

The successful candidate can expect :

  • 10PA basic contract, which includes 1 PA for on call, and further PAs could be allocated according to job planning and based on service demand and Trust requirements.
  • Support to develop own subspecialty interest.
  • Become involved in teaching, training, and research.
  • Developing leadership skills and supporting the service development

(Primarily based at Royal Oldham Hospital, with possibility of some activity at other sites)

Main duties of the job

  • Provide Consultant Haematologist duties including outpatient and inpatient care, advice and guidance to other professionals and an on-call commitment.
  • Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Haematology Department.
  • Ensure maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of haematology patients.
  • Assist in teaching, training and supervision of junior staff and medical students.
  • Actively participating in research and quality improvement projects.
  • Actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
  • The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external links to the Trust and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service.

The post holder will be expected to commit to shared goals in the department by building effective teams and partnerships and valuing the roles and contributions of others.
