Job summary

Established formally in 2021, the Northern Care Alliance NHS FT (NCA) stands as one of England's largest NHS providers, with a dedicated workforce of approximately 20,000 professionals. We cater to the diverse needs of around 1 million people across the northern region of Greater Manchester. Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Dr Owen Williams, who assumed his role in November 2021, the NCA has embarked on a transformative journey to address significant challenges facing the Trust. This innovative approach is evident in the reinforcement of partnerships and seamless integration strategies.

In light of our Chief Financial Officer's decision to retire from the NHS, we are actively seeking a dynamic individual to fill this critical role. As part of our high-performing executive team, you will join a collective committed to the same transformative journey led by our Chief Executive. We seek an individual who thrives in challenging yet exhilarating times. Assuming a pivotal position within our executive team, you will play a crucial role in fostering a person-centred culture, ensuring an exceptional experience for both colleagues and patients. Your responsibilities encompass promoting personal accountability, delivering safe patient care, and contributing to the overall success of the organisation.

Main duties of the job

In your capacity as the Chief Financial Officer, your role will involve providing strategic counsel to our Chief Executive and the Board of Directors. You will offer professional leadership to the Finance, Procurement, and Estates & Facilities teams, exercising financial stewardship over the NCA and leading on the delivery of our 3 year financial sustainability plan. Collaboration with senior finance leads across the NCA will be essential to develop robust plans for meeting budget and cost improvement targets, alongside ambitious capital plans.

Furthermore, you will actively contribute to the financial sustainability of the Greater Manchester Integrated Care System (ICS), working in partnership with stakeholders across the system. Your involvement will extend to shaping and implementing the corporate strategy, emphasizing patient-centricity, quality care, good governance, and the growth of revenues and savings.

About us

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) provides hospital and integrated health and social care services to over one million people living across Greater Manchester. Our 20,000 colleagues care for people in hospital and in the community, working across Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford, to save and improve lives.

As a large NHS trust we are committed to enhancing the health of our local population by delivering consistently high standards of care and working closely with local authorities and key partners. We believe in our power and potential to make a difference and we're always looking for people who demonstrate our three core values - care, appreciate and inspire - to join our team.

In return, we can offer you a job role with purpose and flexibility. The size and scale of the NCA means we can provide more challenge and opportunities so your career can always be moving in the right direction. By joining us you can also access a competitive benefits package, including, a fantastic annual leave allowance, flexible working opportunities and protected hours for health and wellbeing activities, helping you to achieve more personal downtime and a better work-life balance.
