Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Ward Clerk to provide efficient clerical support on our Trauma Orthopaedic Ward B6 located in the Irvine Building of Salford Royal Hospital.

The post is 37.5 hours per week and job share may be considered for the right candidate. The role will provide an exciting challenge to the successful candidate and give the opportunity to play a key role in the continuing development of the Intestinal Failure service.

The full time position is working Monday - Friday 08:00-16:00hrs although start / finish times are negotiable.

Ward Clerks provide administrative support and act as the unit receptionist to the ward. This includes answering telephone calls, updating confidential patient data, making follow up appointments, arranging hospital transport, liaising with medical secretaries, admitting and discharging patient on electronic systems, ordering and maintaining stationary stocks.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as ward receptionist and greet patients and visitors, including those with communication difficulties, on arrival to the ward in accordance with Trust standards and expectations.
  • Ensure that patients are shown to designated waiting areas and given information packs and/or leaflets where applicable.
  • Receive messages in person, by telephone, e-mail or letter and respond appropriately.
  • Ensure that patient's notes and other documentation are prepared and managed confidentially
  • Take responsibility for accurate data entry and retrieval via computer For e.g., patient center, Case note tracking, and other systems.
  • Ensure that discharged patient notes are returned promptly to appropriate secretaries or medical records department, including case note tracking.
  • Arrange follow-up appointments if required.
  • Ensure that patient admission documentation is maintained appropriately and that a record is kept of clinical activity, as required.
  • Ensure that stationery/supplies are ordered as necessary.
  • Ensure that patient's notes are made available prior to admission.
  • Ensure that information is relayed appropriately to the multi-professional and/or multiagency teams to ensure the safe discharge and follow-up of patients.
  • Report/requisition broken or faulty equipment and furnishings within the ward/department
