Job summary

Pathology at Wigan and Salford are currently seeking an experience Senior Biomedical Scientist to provide a high quality, responsive service for patient within the Salford and Wigan areas which include:

  • Salford Royal Hospital, M6 8HD
  • Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, WN1 2NN

Do you have the skills and experience to perform and supervise a range of diagnostics tests, as well as contribute to the development and implementation of new methods? If yes, then you might be the right person for the Biomedical Scientist role in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department. The department is in the process of implementing a state of the art laboratory information management system and is currently also implementing state of the art analysers within the department.

The successful candidate will be a well-motivated team member who is able to prioritise and work on their own initiative with minimal supervision. The candidate must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, a flexible approach and be capable of working accurately and efficiently under pressure.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage and co-ordinate the day to day activities of a discrete section of the laboratory
  • To participate fully in all technical work activities of the department by processing biomedical specimens requiring advanced and specialist technical knowledge.
  • Analyses and interprets results; responsible for standard and quality of result
  • Take the lead in maintaining the Quality Management System
