Job summary

We are seeking a skilled and passionate consultant obstetrician with special interest in fetal medicine to join a team of dedicated consultants at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

You will play a vital role in helping to advance the fetal medicine and complex pregnancy services.

The post holder will participate in the resident on call rota with the frequency of one fixed weekday every 5 weeks and one weekend in every 20 weeks; in addition to labour ward cover during the day.

The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and expertise in Obstetrics (with a specialist interest in Fetal Medicine). You will be required to have full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

The duties outlined below are not definitive but cover the main duties of the post and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

  • To provide care and scan expertise for birthing persons who attend the complex pregnancy unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital (fetal medicine, preterm birth clinic, multiple pregnancy, placental clinic and Rainbow Clinic).
  • To provide compassionate obstetrics bereavement care.
  • To provide consultant leadership in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
  • To participate in the consultant rota pattern for daytime and out of hours resident on call.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and training of junior doctors.
  • To actively participate in quality improvement activity and clinical governance.
  • To maintain and ensure own mandatory training, continuing professional development and appraisal are up to date.
