Job summary

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to work as a Consultant Applied Psychologist and fully embedded member of the Intestinal Failure (IF) multidisciplinary Service based at the Northern IF Reference Centre (Salford Royal Hospital). The postholder will be expected to provide professional leadership to the IF Psychology team based in the IF Service, as well as professionally manage and lead the wider Gastro-Intestinal Psychology Service based in the wider Clinical Health Psychology department. Clinically, the postholder will carry a small clinical caseload comprising both IF inpatient and outpatient work. There is also expectation the postholder will provide consultation to the wider IF service, (medical, surgical, nursing and allied health professionals), as well as be involved in research and represent IF Psychology on a national stage through regular conferences and training events.

The post holds permanent 8C funding at 28 hours, with additional, temporary 7.5 hours in-situ currently until September 2024.

Main duties of the job

To lead, manage and develop the systematic provision of a highly specialist Clinical Health Psychology Service and to operationally manage and professionally lead the Gastro-Intestinal Psychology Service, incorporating the highly specialist Intestinal Failure Unit, and other relevant Gastro services based within Salford Care Organisation. To work autonomously within models of best practice and professional guidelines, exercising lead responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within these services, including teaching and training of clinical psychology and other staff within the multi-disciplinary team. To lead psychological R&D activity and lead responsibility for policy and service development in relation to psychological provision; to propose and implement service development(s) within these services.

  • Post-graduate training and learning in a specific area of specialist knowledge and expertise equivalent to post graduate diploma level.

  • Post Doctorate Qualification in a Mental Health Therapeutic Skill
