Job summary
This role is open to GP, Hospital Consultant and/or Senior Registrar only.
Overview of Responsibilities:
- Delivery of teaching sessions for Doctors and Nurses across the PLAB curriculum
- Provide 1:1 support to our Members, with the responsibility of working with a tutorial group of between 5-20 Members throughout their journey. Providing Supervision, mentoring and guidance. Can manage low level pastoral support and signpost to other resources within REACHE or externally
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills that can cross cultural barriers and provide a great deal of compassion and respect. A high level of organisational skills, patience and adaptability to member circumstances is require
- Communicating with members about clinical attachments and placements and enabling educational feedback
- Undertake research and PDP activities
- Development of curriculum material with a particular focus of developing and delivering on-line resources and courses. Course materials will cover clinical skills, professionalism, communication and cultural adaptation
- Providing feedback in a constructive and supportive way to Members, including for role plays, reflective practices, placements and exams
- Managing staff or students through performance / development processes
- You will liaise with stakeholders such as GMC and BMA, Northern Care Alliance, home office and health education England
- Acting as a champion for the Reache programme
Main duties of the job
Role:
Open to GPs & Hospital Doctors
Supporting Refugee and Asylum Seeker doctors through PLAB exams, GMC registration and into NHS clinical jobs, close supervision of doctors on placement and creating and implementing detailed individualised educational plans
Tutor to deliver remote and face to face clinical teaching and supervision to REACHE members
Tutors are requiredto have excellent team working and communication skillsand it is essential they have experience of curriculum development and clinical supervision/ teaching of with overseas Doctors, or undergraduate / postgraduate students.
This post carries specific responsibility for the development and delivery of clinical and professional skills teaching and the 'return to work' courses for refugee doctors to ensure that the participants learn the additional skills to make them safe fully rounded healthcare professionals; each with a personal development plan.

There is no timetabled teaching for members over half terms, two week over Easter, 2 weeks over Christmas and for 6 weeks over the summer, so this role offers flexible working during holiday periods, compatible with family life/caring responsibilities/outside interests.

Reache NW, established 20 years ago, has delivered Occupational English education and PLAB success for overseas qualified Refugee, Asylum Seeker, Evacuee Doctors, Nurses and allied health professionals and placed them into NHS jobs. Over 600 doctors and AHPs have passed through our programme. We are seeking clinicians who can demonstrate experience of teaching and training doctors or medical students. The role is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic tutor at REACHE, where we have excellent staff retention and have not had a clinical tutor job opening for many years. You will work with administrative support, English tutors Pastoral support lead, volunteers and other clinicians in delivering this programme.
