Job summary

We are looking for a doctor who can provide expertise in Care of the Elderly & General Medicine, a substantive or 12 months fixed term contract will be considered. You will be part of a hospital & medical department currently undergoing a period of innovation and development, we are bringing all the services together within 1 department and developing our offer to provide specialist care to our older patients in inpatient settings, virtual community beds in patients homes &on an in-reach basis. The Trust is also part of the Acute Frailty Network & is currently on an improvement journey to increase & improve the care &outcomes we offer our patients within Oldham and we are currently developing the SDEC, Hot clinic and in reach to orthopedics, vascular and general surgery.

There is a significant general medical component to the job, which you will be required to contribute to. You will be involved in many aspects of elderly care including Dementia care, Acute frailty, in reach and virtual wards.

Main duties of the job

To be eligible for consideration you must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatrics & General internal medicine or a Specialist Registrar within six months of your CCT date or have equivalent experience to be entered on the GMC Specialist Registrar within six months of the interview date.

This is an exciting time of departmental expansion and we'd love to meet like-minded individuals with a drive for success and thirst for knowledge. The post is being offered at 10PAs with 1.25PA as GIM on call with opportunities for additional leadership and governance commitments.

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT Specialist Registration in GIM and Geriatrics or will obtain within 6 months of interview date, or working towards CESR, or European Community Rights
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Higher Degree in relevant Clinical or Management Subject(MD or PHD Equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience at Senior level managing acute elderly and general adult inpatients.
  • Experience in liaison geriatrics in the form of Orthogeriatrics, surgical liaison and/or community geriatrics
  • High calibre of clinical decision making
  • Extensive experience in acute unselected general medicine of all age groups

Desirable

  • Demonstrate evidence of sound financial management.
