Job summary

Opportunities are available in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department at The Royal Oldham Hospital for experienced doctors who can provide demonstrable expertise in Obstetric /Gynaecology with interest in Endometriosis in order to deliver a high-quality service.

This is an exciting time for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join the NCA endometriosis service and rest of the team of consultants and support the delivery of obstetric services, and NCA endometriosis service.

The Trust's management structure aligns the divisional and directorate structure into 4 Care Organisations (Bury, Rochdale; Oldham, and Salford).

Each Care Organisation consists of a Medical Director, a Nursing Director, a Managing Director, Finance Manager and an Associate Director of Workforce. The Divisional Management Team consists of a Divisional Managing Director, Divisional Medical Director and a Divisional Director of Nursing. Directorate Teams within each Division are also established within each care organisation.

The department sits in both the Maternity and Women's and Children's division.

(Primarily based at The Royal Oldham Hospital, with possibility of some activity at other sites)

Main duties of the job

The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge & expertise in Obstetrics with maternal medicine specialty.. The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register in Obstetrics & gynaecology or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.

The duties outlined below are not definitive but cover the main duties of the post and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

  • Consultant Labour Ward Presence
  • Supporting Antenatal and Postnatal care
  • Providing Consultant Emergency Obstetric Input
  • Providing bereavement care
  • Participating in the Endometriosis MDT / Theatre and Gynaecology clinics.

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care & conducting appropriate duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Multidisciplinary teamwork is a key component of the working of this Trust and this post will involve Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues in order to formulate appropriate and evidenced based care plans for the patient.

The department receives both undergraduate and post graduate trainees and the post holder will contribute to continuing medical and multi professional education activity including teaching as necessary.

  • Entry onto the GMC specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent ("equivalence" must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by the date of the AAC)

Clinical experience and effectiveness

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics equivalent to that required for a UK CCST
  • ATSM labour ward
  • ATSM Advanced Laparoscopic surgery for excision of benign disease

Desirable

  • Subspecialty accreditation.

Management / Audit

Essential

  • Ability to manage other staff/ understanding of audit systems
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance issues
  • Knowledge of risk assessment
  • Evidence of service development
