Job summary

The Named Nurse for safeguarding children and Cared for Children (LAC) will support all activities to ensure the organization meets its statutory safeguarding responsibilities with regard to children and young people. The post holder will provide leadership and assurance across the field of safeguarding children and LAC, seeking assurances from and holding to account services regarding their safeguarding responsibilities.

This post will manage a safeguarding team and Cared for Children's team providing expert leadership of the safeguarding Children agenda for Rochdale Infirmary and Rochdale Children's Community Services. The post holder will provide access to a highly expert and supportive team approach for the children and young people from, and using our services in Rochdale.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide expert highly specialist advice and support across the organisation on all safeguarding matters and Children Looked After matters. They will provide the ADNS for safeguarding with support in implementing the safeguarding children agenda and LAC agenda across the Alliance.

Assist the Alliance in meeting its statutory duties and responsibilities relating to Safeguarding children and young people and LAC. This includes providing cover, where necessary, in the absence of named nurse from other localities.

Analyse highly complex situations and provide professional judgements as to a range of options, deciding on best courses of action to ensure the optimum outcome for the child.

Develop and facilitate safeguarding training and Children Looked After training linked to a training strategy and the Intercollegiate Guidelines (2019)

Respond to changes in legislation and statutory guidance and disseminate as required.

Be able to articulate to colleagues their role, remit and clinical professional accountability.

Support and advise professionals on the management of all forms of child abuse and Children Looked After matters including relevant legal frameworks and documentation.

To establish and maintain communication with groups and individuals on complex and highly sensitive issues in a range of inter and intra agency settings on issues pertaining to safeguarding children and Children Looked After

Inspires others and encourage them to seek advice and solutions to problems

Challenges, promotes and encourages others to take an active part in developing knowledge, ideas and work practice.

Disseminate lessons learnt from local and national child safeguarding practice reviews and Internal Management reviews and advise on the implementation of recommendations.

Challenges practice and take appropriate risks accepting joint responsibility for any arising problems and tensions and using these to inform future practice.

Promotes the service and encourages the safeguarding team to disseminate good practice both internal and external to the Trust

  • Registered General Nurse Registered on Part 1 of the NMC
  • Part 3 as a specialist community public health nurse having completed a specific programme with a child and family focus.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Have completed specific training in the care of babies / children and young people
  • Have completed a post registration training in safeguarding Children including Law, Policy and Practice at post graduate Level.
  • Working towards Masters qualification in safeguarding or related subject or equivalent experience.
  • Training on the Mental Capacity act (MCA)

  • Leadership or management course

  • Have substantial safeguarding experience at Band 7 or above
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience related to caring for babies / children / young people and have an understanding of forensic matters

  • Experience in dealing with highly contentious and emotive information and advising on management of sensitive cases
