Job summary
The post holder will work within a team of Occupational health professionals in a supporting role, providing needs based occupational health services to clients in line with good practice and current legislation.
The aim of the NCA Occupational Health Department is to maintain the health and wellbeing of employees, therefore increasing productivity, reducing sickness absenceand assisting in the recruitment and retention of employees.
We offer a wide range of services which benefit both staff and managers to help reduce staff sickness absence and to promote a healthy, motivated workforce. These include:
- Management referrals and self-referrals with an Occupational Health Advisor or an Occupational Health Physician
- Immunisations
- Ill health retirements
- Physiotherapy for musculoskeletal conditions affecting staff members in the workplace
- Counselling service for staff
- Health surveillance, which includes skin assessments, hand held vibration, audiometry and spirometry.
- Needlestick injuries that occur during the departments core hours
Occupational Health works alongside recruitment, making sure that staff are fit to commence their role and provide any advice or support required to help the staff member to fulfil their role.
Main duties of the job
Undertaking health supervision of employees regarding sickness absence and work towards reducing sickness absence levels within the Trust. This will include undertaking telephone and face to face case management. Advise management on employee's fitness to work following a period of sickness absence including any adjustments or modifications that may be required.
Facilitate referrals to the staff support services which include Physiotherapy and Psychological Support services.
Plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individuals and, for higher risk groups, in accordance with policies and individual needs. Undertake health surveillance and immunisation programmes according to identified needs.
Undertake face to face work health assessments of prospective employees to ascertain their fitness for and provide advice and information as required.
Assess, plan and implement immunisation programmes for staff in accordance with Occupational Health Policies and maintain an effective recall system.
To have knowledge and understanding of virology results pertaining to Occupational Health, in line with Department of Health guidance.
To assess and administer treatment required in the event of an inoculation injury and ensure appropriate blood tests, treatment, advice and follow-up in accordance with the Trust Policy is undertaken.
To work independently undertaking the full range of occupation health duties at outside companies/industries.
