Job summary

Are you a midwife with a keen interest in Diabetes care ?

We are seeking an experienced, proactive midwife with a good knowledge base in this interesting and complex area of midwifery to be part of a small team, serving both Rochdale and Oldham Care Organisations. As the Diabetes Midwife you will assist in monitoring the service, in line with national standards and service specifications.

No two days are the same in the diabetes service. You will need to be naturally responsive to the changing demands on your priorities and workloads. The post holder will need to be confident enough to assist in driving local change to meet the expectations and standards set by the national programmes.

The role will be cross-site to cover both The Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary. You will need to be willing to travel flexibly to both sites and to outside events/meetings/visits as and when necessary.

Our commitment to you

You will have the full support and guidance of the Diabetes Specialist Midwife in all aspects of your role, and a comprehensive induction will be provided. You may be included in key meetings (both internal and regional), in the absence of the Specialist Midwife and for your continuing professional development will be encouraged to attend training/information/update events run by Public Health England and other relevant parties.

Main duties of the job

The part you play

In order to fulfil the needs of this role you will need to be caring and empathic, but also tenacious and resilient. Communication is key - so promoting good relationships with your colleagues and the wider multi-disciplinary team should come naturally to you.

Your role will involve planning and delivering plans of care and clinical advice to women working collaboratively with the diabetes team so you should have some experience in communicating complex information and be proactive when unexpected results arise.

You will also assist in the monitoring of the failsafe systems and should feel passionate about patient safety and experience. In order to maintain the level of data required, you will need to be confident with Microsoft Office applications, and have an extraordinary eye for detail.

Part of your role will be supporting the on-going training and education of colleagues, so an ability to present and talk publicly would be beneficial.

If you are keen to develop your career, and feel this describes your experience and abilities, we would be delighted to hear from you!

About us

Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations - Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of 'Saving lives, Improving lives', the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.

Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be. This is a really exciting time to join our new team.
