Job summary

Main Purpose of the Job:

  • The main focus for this role will be to provide wellbeing, pastoral and spiritual support inclusive of all colleagues throughout the NCA.
  • To lead on, implement, deliver and evaluate the development of creative programmes for colleague wellbeing.
  • To work in an integrated fashion, undertaking management responsibilities, clinical pastoral work, education and teaching, committee and group work as well as responding to emergencies and the unexpected. You will need to work in a reactive as well as proactive manner and in accordance with Spiritual Care Standards as agreed by the College of Healthcare Chaplains and the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy.
  • To work within multi-faith/belief chaplaincy and spiritual care team and to respond to the spiritual, religious, cultural and pastoral needs of all patients, visitors and colleagues.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team, the chaplain will be required to respond sensitively and effectively to the spiritual, cultural, pastoral, and religious needs of colleagues, patients and visitors of all beliefs including non-religious beliefs, in a person-centered way.

Applicants will need to be excellent listeners and communicators, and have a non-judgemental, calm, and confident approach. Understanding of and ability to provide spiritual care in times of crisis and emergency is essential.

It is expected that the Chaplain will be prepared to offer a flexible working pattern. The positions may involve participating in a shared on-call rota (out of hours, weekends and bank holidays) with other chaplains. This would require them to live within a reasonable distance of the hospitals and have an ability to travel to the hospitals when needed.

We are looking to appoint experienced Chaplains, who have significant pastoral care skills and demonstrable involvement in healthcare Chaplaincy and multi-faith/ belief working. They will be eligible to work towards UKBHC registration. We are seeking a person who will share our commitment to delivering a safe, clean and personal service; to uphold the Trust values; and will support our team, in delivering the highest standard of spiritual care at all times.

About us

The Northern Care Alliance is excited to recruit four Colleague Wellbeing Chaplains to work in Salford, Oldham and Bury Care Organisations. These brand-new posts are based within established multi-faith/ belief teams. As a member of the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team, the chaplain will be working in a diverse and inclusive setting. They will be required to respond sensitively and effectively to the spiritual, cultural, pastoral and religious needs of colleagues, patients and visitors of all beliefs including non-religious beliefs.

  • Lead on the co-creation and effective delivery of new and innovative initiatives and activities that support the health and wellbeing objectives for the organisation working closely with the Health and Wellbeing Lead and Wellbeing Coach Project Lead utilising the NCA SCARF Programme
  • To provide specialist support and advice to Staff Experience committee and Trust Wellbeing team regarding matters of spiritual need and deploy resources appropriately to meet that need.
  • To contribute to the review and development of the organisations health and wellbeing strategy.
  • Provision of in the moment wellbeing support throughout all colleague environments providing needs assessment, wellbeing and pastoral support with signposting to other specialist services as required
  • One-to-one and group/team scheduled sessions both virtual and face-to-face.
  • Education and support for managers and colleagues to equip with skills and knowledge around self-compassion, reflection, self-care and wellbeing.
  • Escalate complex and/or safeguarding concerns to other services such as Occupational Health, Clinical Psychologist, Safeguarding, Domestic Abuse etc
  • Respond with empathy and care to highly distressing situations which will affect patients, carers or staff e.g. work related and personal bereavements, in conjunction with the SWAN Bereavement Team; work related impacts on wellbeing such as critical incidents and bullying and harassment, in collaboration with HR
  • Provide expert facilitation of health and wellbeing training programmes and information sessions.
