Job summary
The Pain Management Service is an integrated multidisciplinary service looking after patients with acute and long-term pain, both in an inpatient and outpatient setting. The post holder will work alongside Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Clinical Psychologists.
The post holder will see patients in outpatients who are suffering with persistent pain. They will provide a comprehensive biopsychosocial clinical assessment of patients referred to the Pain Service and together with the patient formulate a management plan. The post holder will also provide specialist advice to healthcare professionals managing inpatients at NNUH, where persistent pain is delaying inpatient treatment or preventing discharge from hospital. The post-holder will also provide support for community services, in the form of Advice & Guidance.
Main duties of the job
The post is predominantly a clinical role, with over 75% related to direct clinical care. The remainder of the hours will represent the other pillars of advanced practice; leadership, education & training and practice or service development.
The postholder will be expected to undertake a combination of clinics, in-patient review and follow up patient activity.

- Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision- making to determine evidence-based therapeutic interventions, which will include prescribing medication where legally allowed and actively monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.

- The post holder will be expected to provide clinical, educational and professional leadership, supporting staff within the Pain Management Service. They will contribute and develop a programme of practice development for staff who will also be caring for these patients. This should incorporate highly specialised clinical teaching both within NNUHFT and across the region for ACPs and other medical, nursing and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), as appropriate. They will actively lead practice and service development and design, within their specialist clinical field to support the delivery of equitable services across the region.
