Job summary
A post is available in the Cellular Pathology Service, which forms part of the Cellular Pathology directorate. Histopathology receives and processes patient (tissue) samples to provide diagnostic reports to hospital clinicians and General Practitioners. This post presents an opportunity to be part of an excellent team.

Main duties of the job
The role includes the collection of routine and urgent specimens from theatres and clinics at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital site. The specimens are transferred to a van driver for scheduled transport to the Cotman Centre, which is located on the research park. The service runs for 5 days a week, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 07:00 and 17:00.The post is fixed term, ending 9/2/24.
You may also be required to collect and transport urgent specimen samples from the hospital to the Cotman Centre.
1 You will play a key role in ensuring routine and urgent specimens are collected and transferred to Histopathology at the Cotman Centre.
2 You will also play a key role supporting the laboratory stock control.
3 This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a pathology portering role. Full training is provided.

The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:
- Routine specimen transport box collection at NNUH from specified departments, including theatres and Outpatient Clinics following a specified timetable and instructions.
- Delivery of Microbiology specimen pots and collection of completed samples from specified locations following a detailed timetable and instructions. This may be part of the duty listed in item 1 or may form a separate roster.
- Provide an immediate response to users via phone or bleep for urgent specimen transport box collection within the Trust to the Cotman Centre using the Trust dedicated vehicle.
- The responsibilities described in 1, 2 and 3 above will be in rotation with colleagues and as required to meet the needs of the service.
- To collect the Crown car used for urgent specimen transport from the West Atrium/ Level 2 parking areas and return as required for the needs of the service.
- To deliver the specimen transport boxes at specified times for transportation to the Cotman Centre via the Cotman Centre/Microbiology van system according to the schedule.
