Job summary

The Nuclear Medicine department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH), currently QSI accredited, is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Apprentice Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our multi-disciplinary team and work along other Radiographers/Technologists, Nursing Staff, Admin Staff, Clinical Scientists and Radiology Consultants while demonstrating the NNUH PRIDE values.

The department has three state-of-the-art Symbia Intevo Bold SPECT/CT. The department performs approximately 7,500 examinations per year, offering a wide range of specialist diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine imaging and non-imaging procedures for patients across Norfolk and SuffolkNNUH sits at the centre of acute healthcare delivery, surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the Norfolk Broads and the sweeping, sandy beaches of the Norfolk coastline. The Hospital is close to the vibrant and historical City of Norwich providing entertainment and fantastic shopping facilities.

The trainee will have the opportunity to be in post prior to applying to study a fully funded 3-year BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science apprenticeship studying at the University of West England (UWE). This degree apprenticeship is aimed at healthcare workers who wish to develop in the field of medical physics and specialise in Nuclear Medicine.

Main duties of the job

A relevant level 3 qualification is required to apply to study the degree apprenticeship.

All apprentices must have English and Mathematics qualification equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above. Apprentices without the GCSE (or equivalent) qualifications must achieve them within the first year of their degree.

The candidate must have the Level 3 qualification or be working towards completing it by May 2025.

The apprenticeship will allow you to complete a 3-year BSc (Hons) in Medical Physics (Nuclear Medicine) at the University of West England, Bristol. This 3-year course (from September 2025) will combine face-to-face, work-based, and online learning, with three 5-day blocks at UWE Bristol in each year to attend seminars. During this period, the apprentice will also be given a weekly study day.

Upon completing the degree apprenticeship, all relevant qualifications, and becoming registered with the RCT, the postholder's grade will be uplifted to Band 5 Nuclear Medicine Technologist position.
