Job summary

***Fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity until 21/12/2025***

We have a dedicated Colorectal Surgical team providing complex and major surgery to a catchment area of Norfolk and Waveney. We also receive tertiary referrals from James Paget, Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals.

We are one of the largest dedicated Colorectal Surgery units in England and receive around 450 new colorectal cancer referrals per year. Our Surgical services are highly rated and regarded, with excellent surgical outcomes and mortality figures within speciality. The Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialists works closely with the medical team. This involves liaising with Colorectal Consultants, registrars and the wider medical team; liaising with Primary Care Teams and other Associated Healthcare Professionals and supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey and beyond.

This post will be covering maternity leave and is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in working within the colorectal clinical nurse specialist service. You will be supported in developing new skills and knowledge to work effectively in supporting patients during their treatment.

Main duties of the job

You will work with all members of the clinical team within the multidisciplinary framework to maintain a high standard of patient care.

You will provide a comprehensive service for patients being referred for colorectal cancer treatment. To provide direct patient care and support in helping improve quality of life by educating the patient on the management and control of symptoms and offering support following diagnosis. To be a resource for other health professionals.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate expert patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patient's cancer pathway.

Monitor and improve standards of care through clinical audit, assisting with leading the development of practice through research.

Actively participate in regional and local Colorectal Cancer Groups Developing the service and being supportive of change.

Liaise closely with the health care teams of the in-patient wards, out-patient department and primary care, including consultant surgeons and GP's.

You will also provide and promote a high standard of professional care at all times whilst upholding and influencing professional and Trust values. To develop, implement and evaluate care packages for a specialist group of patients.

Some early evening working will be required. Weekend working may be required in the future.
