Job summary

Applications are invited for the consultant post in the Obstetric department. This is a full time post created following a retirement.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time, substantive post in response to a retirement. The successful applicant would join a team of 11 consultant Obstetricians delivering high quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.

The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside the existing team to provide tertiary care within the maternal medicine centre for those with pre-existing health conditions. The successful candidate is expected to lead the Norwich Regional Maternal Medicine Centre.

About us

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services through the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (1,000 beds) and Cromer and District Hospital, including more specialist services such as oncology and radiotherapy, neonatology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, paediatric medicine and surgery.

Our staff of over 7,000 treat more than one million patients; people from Norfolk, neighbouring counties and further afield. Our patients are referred to us by around 100 local GP practices but also from other acute hospitals and primary care trusts around the country.

As a university teaching hospital we have developed our research and development strategy in partnership with the University of East Anglia.

We also work closely with our partners on the Norwich Research Park and Norwich Radiology Academy to take forward our ambitious targets for research and development.

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register Via; o CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) o CESR or o European Community Rights
  • ATSM Advanced Labour Ward Practice
  • ATSM Maternal Medicine
  • ASM in Safe Practice in Abortion Care

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher qualification - MD, MSc
  • Experience in Quality Improvement methodology
  • APM Clinical Research

Aptitudes

Essential

  • Good communicator
  • Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.

Desirable

  • Previous responsibility for service improvement
  • Management skills (eg experience of coordinating rotas)

  • Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 7 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty
