Main duties of the job
The nephrology service covers a population of just over 850,000. The hub of the service is at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with one satellite unit at Cromer Hospital in North Norfolk and very close links with the James Paget Hospital (JPH) and its satellite dialysis unit in Gorleston.
The acute nephrology service has in-patient beds based on the dedicated renal ward: Langley. Acute dialysis can be provided 24 hours per day on the ward, and we also deliver non-haematological plasma exchange. Percutaneous renal biopsies (both native and transplant) and insertion of temporary and tunneled dialysis lines are also performed on Langley ward. The hospital has a large intensive care unit (with provision for haemofiltration) and high dependency unit, which is currently undergoing expansion, as well as excellent support services.
We manage the largest purpose-built offsite dialysis unit in the United Kingdom - Norfolk and Norwich Kidney Center (NNKC) which is approximately 2 miles away from the hospital. We serve approximately 180 in-center haemodialysis patients at the NNKC.
