Job summary
An opportunity has arisen in the Radiology Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) and Cromer District Hospital for Band 2 Radiology Department Assistants.
The Radiology department sits within the Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services division and provides diagnostic imaging and therapeutic treatments across a range of specialties across the Trust.

Main duties of the job
This role involves assisting with all aspects of Imaging including preparing patients for examinations, helping to position patients for examinations, assisting with interventional procedures, in addition to having knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology.
The role is patient focused so good communication is essential to assist patients and to demonstrate care and empathy to those who are unwell or distressed, helping them through the Imaging process.
The post holder will contribute to the provision of a high standard of care for patients and carry out some duties unaided, in accordance with Trust/Directorate policy, at the discretion of qualified staff.
This is role will rotate on a roster basis throughout the department including MRI, CT, Plain Film, Ultrasound and Antenatal Ultrasound. The rotation will include shifts at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and Cromer District Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre.

- Under the supervision of Radiographers assist with all aspects of imaging, including changing patients in preparation for examination.
- Assist Radiographers in the positioning of patients for examinations.
- Prepare and maintain trolleys for biopsies and to assist with biopsies, drainages etc, as and when the need arises.
- Understand and demonstrate the fundamentals of Radiation Protection.
- Demonstrate an established knowledge base of basic anatomy and medical terminology.
- Administer oral contrast to patients having CT and MRI according to Trust protocol.
- To act as a second checker for Radiology Contrast media in CT and MRI, and also act as second checker for Buscopan in MRI and CT Colonoscopies.
- Prepare CT/MRI scanning rooms and all imaging rooms to receive patients.
- To help with distressed patients, unwell patients, explain procedures to them, and take care of them, reassuring them as required; reporting any problems to the person undertaking the examination.
