Job summary

Team NNUH's Renal Department is seeking dedicated Health Care Assistants to join their team at our off-site dialysis treatment centre in Bowthorpe.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who wish to develop their clinical skills and progress their healthcare career to join the team.

Our state of the art unit, based on the outskirts of the city centre is open from 6.45am- 10:30pm from Monday to Saturday and closes on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The building has eight bays, each with four stations to provide dialysis treatment to patients. Most of our patients visit us regularly, up to three times a week, so we have ensured it is a bright and airy clinic with plenty of refreshments and televisions to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

Main duties of the job

Your role as a Healthcare Assistant will be-

  • To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse
  • Keep the clinical area clean and tidy, maintaining a safe environment
  • Welcome patients, visitors and relatives to the clinical area, providing assistance, support and information where required
  • Accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a Registered Nurse maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • To prepare the dialysis machines ready for treatment, weigh the patients and check their observations on arrival
  • To prepare the equipment used for each dialysis session and print blood request forms as required.

You'll be joining a friendly tight knit and highly supportive team, where there will be plenty of opportunity to progress and develop your skills. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking and flexible person to assist with the smooth running of our busy department. We provide over 500 dialysis treatments per week and see our clients thrice weekly. If you are someone who enjoys continuity and regular contact with clients then this role could be for you.

There are many exciting opportunities to develop personally and professionally within the division, some of our Health Care Assistants have the opportunity to apply to join the Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) programme. This is a two-year course, resulting in Nursing Associate registration and making you eligible to train as a Registered Nurse via a shortened nursing degree or Registered Nurse degree apprenticeship (RNDA).

The TNA course acts as a stepping stone to becoming a Nurse, as a teaching hospital we are proud to able offer this opportunity to our Health Care Assistants.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be supported through your Care Certificate Programme, requiring completion of set standards, with help from our dedicated Medical Clinical Educator and Practice Development teams.

Upon completion of the certificate, you will also have the opportunity to work additional bank shifts in alternative areas of interest. This will enable you to gain further experience across specialties.
