This post offers a wonderful opportunity, for the successful candidate, to join the Recognise and Respond team; supporting the philosophy of multi-skilling and integration into the Critical Care Complex. Providing a high quality 24/7 service.
The Recognise and Respond Team is fast paced and diverse; The team comprises of four arms; Rapid Response, Education and Quality Improvement, Resuscitation and Critical Care Anaesthetic Practitioners. The successful candidates will work as part of the Critical Care Anesthetic Practitioner Team, responding to and supporting acute airway management of patients in Critical Care and the wards. They will also be fully involved in the team's education and quality improvement projects, working to improve standards of care across the trust through education, audit and quality improvement. They will also work alongside the resuscitation team to support the delivery of both direct patient care through cardiac arrest response and education. This is a hugely exciting role within a dynamic team and we would encourage anyone who has the skills, passion and dedication to make contact.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for highly motivated and dedicated professionals with skills and knowledge in emergency, acute or critical care. The successful applicants will demonstrate their experience in delivering high standards of patient care within the Critical Care Complex or acute patient areas. Working primarily with the Critical Care Doctors but also providing high levels of support to the wider multi-disciplinary team.
- Supporting ward teams and critical care in the detection, management and treatment of acute airway management
- High risk patient transfers
- Trust wide education on topics related to acute airway management.
- Quality improvement work on projects related to deteriorating patients.
Shift work covering 24hours a day, 7 days a week.

Job responsibilities
- Provide clinical and managerial leadership and support to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in relation to Level 1, Level 2 and level 3 patients across the Trust.
- Assist with audit and quality assurance procedures to optimise the assessment of care of Level 2 and Level 3 patients throughout the Trust.
- Raise awareness of issues relating to the safe and effective delivery of care to Level 2 and Level 3 patients.
- Establish and maintain professional networking relationships between Recognise and Respond Team, the Critical Care Complex and the Trust.
- Optimise collaborative working between the Recognise and Respond Team, Critical Care Complex, Emergency Department, and ward teams to optimise monitoring, treatment and care of patients.
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of complex clinical, political and resource issues regarding the Trusts delivery of care to Level 2 and Level 3 patients; in order to most effectively deliver short and long term aims for the service.
- Assist in the implementation of strategies and policies to support patients with critical illness within Critical Care Complex, Emergency Department, admission areas and in-patient wards, working across directorates and promoting collaborative team working.
- Utilise highly developed interpersonal, communication and diplomacy skills to effectively reduce barriers to understanding and motivate groups of staff to accept change and achieve goals set.
- To respond to patients with airway distress across the trust. Assess, plan and implement care in line with Trust policy and procedures.
- Use enhanced clinical skills to provide advanced support to medical staff in the performance of specialist procedures e.g. arterial and central vein cannulation, tracheal intubation.
- To use enhanced clinical skills to ensure timely treatment to all Critically ill patients in their care. Maintaining competence in: invasive blood pressure monitoring cannulation, peripheral venous cannulation and ECGs.
- Assist with or perform, emergency procedures associated with critically ill patients, such as acute drug administration, arterial and venous access, bronchoscopy, intubation, tracheostomy, intubation and endotracheal tube changes,
- Respond to the emergency bleep, as part of the trust wide resuscitation team, attending all airway and emergency calls within the Critical Care Complex and wider Trust, support nursing and medical teams, across the trust in the review of patients with compromised Supporting cardiac arrest situations where required.
- Assist in the identification of educational needs of the MDT in relation to care of Critically ill and deteriorating patients within the Trust.
