Job summary

Dermatology Out-patients is a friendly dynamic team, we provide general, surgical and nurse-led clinics across multiple sites. This post would predominantly be based at Norfolk & Norwich Hospital, though there may be a future expectation for occasional working in other sites where dermatology operates clinics. We have a nurse led clinic service at Cromer Hospital and there may occasionally be a need for ad-hoc shifts at Cromer.

Previous Senior HCA experience/ surgical experience would be advantageous, however full training would be given to the most suitable candidate who demonstrates a passion for dermatology nursing.

As part of the Senior HCA role, you will also gain competence in working in Mohs surgery, this role is heavily surgery lead.

Clinics and services run Mon-Sun 07:00-18:15. No night working is currently required.

Current available hours:

34 hours, however we will have more available hours soon.

Main duties of the job

Dermatology is a vast specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of skin disorders. At the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital we are fortunate to have a large dermatology department with a highly motivated medical and nursing team offering a large number of dermatological treatments. We have both surgical and general clinics where Senior HCA's can work with medical colleagues.

Any Senior HCA looking to join our team would be supported and developed to achieve our HCA/Mohs competencies.

  • To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
  • To carry out duties as specified in within the Trusts Approved Core Task List for Health Care Assistants qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Care/Health and Social Care.
  • To report to registered staff any patient that gives cause for concern or any observed changes in a patients clinical condition
  • To report all care that has been given to patients within the team to a Registered Nurse.
  • To accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a Registered Nurse maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care. be aware of role in emergency situations
  • To be aware of and adhere to all Trust policies / procedures / nursing guidelines when undertaking any activities.
  • To make patients welcome to the clinical area and participate in the admission process under the supervision of registered staff.
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal nursing care in accordance with essence of care standards.
  • To keep the clinical area clean and tidy maintaining a safe environment
  • To welcome patients, visitors and relatives to the clinical area, providing assistance, support and information where required. Being aware of barriers to effective communication.
  • To answer the telephone when necessary in a polite courteous manner and pass on enquiries to the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicate effectively within the nursing team, multi-disciplinary team and other departments to ensure that patient care is well planned and coordinated.
  • To contribute to the handover of the care of patients within the team under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse maintaining confidentiality at all times.
