Portering Support
This job is now closed
Job summary
Hello. My name is Natalie, and I am the Matron of the Acute Medical Unit here at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. I wanted to personally introduce myself and explain to you why you should choose to come and join my team.
The Acute Medical Unit at NNUH is set across three wards currently with a combined bed base of 84 beds plus 9 trolleys. Much like other AMU's we receive patients directly from GP's and the Emergency Department and we ensure all emergency admission patients receive seamless, high-quality care at the point of admission. We see around 20,000 emergency admissions each year.
Where we differ from other acute units is that NNUH has spent a lot of time in the development of Emergency Care which has led to the expansion of the services offered by the Acute Medical Unit. This includes Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Priority Assessment Unit (PAU) acute medical short stay beds, and advanced care for critically ill patients.
So why join my team?
I'm a realist, acute medicine is busy. The days are long, and the work is challenging. As a team we recognize this and make sure that all members of the team are fully supported, and we look after you. I am lucky to have four amazing ward sisters supporting the team, and we are also supported by our own clinical educator. All our doors are open, and we encourage our team to come speak to us.
Main duties of the job
AMU is currently recruiting for a Portering Support. This unique role requires a versatile individual to perform a variety of different tasks. The role requires you to undertake tasks such supporting the timely transfer of patients both within AMU and external areas within the hospital. Portering support are essential members of the team who help to ensure our day-to-day tasks run smoothly. From time to time, you will have direct contact with our patients and being able to meet their needs with a smile and a friendly greeting will help make their stay in our ward much better.
Under the direction and supervision of the Nursing Staff, the post holder will participate as an integral member of the departmental team, undertaking general housekeeping duties, including some direct patient contact, as well as supporting the timely and effective transfers of patients by portering beds, wheelchairs and trollies as well as equipment when required.
I would love you to come join my team and not only come work for me but come start a long and rewarding career at our hospital. If you would like more information, please give me a call on 01603 286286 ext 5677 or send me an email Natalie.cornish@nnuh.nhs.uk. Any interested candidates are welcome to come for an informal meeting to have a look round and meet the team.
I'm really looking forward to hearing from you and thank you for your time
Full time: 37.5 hours per week.
Interview date: 15th April 2024
