Job summary
The post holder will practice as a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) within Oncology & Haematology, at the end of the defined training period and after meeting training requirements defined below, they will progress to the ACP role.
- Full Masters award in advanced practice
- Completion of the Non-Medical Prescribing programme
- Evidence of completion of all NNUH CORE competencies set out in the Advanced Clinical Professional Accountability, Assurance and Competency Framework.
- Evidence of completion of all the additional competencies applicable to Oncology & Haematology.
- Has completed a minimum of 5 ACATs.
- Evidence of at least 1 audit per year.
- Completed Advanced Life Support.
At the end of the training the post holder will exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of a caseload of Oncology & Haematology patients who may have highly complex and/or chronic presentation.
Full time: 37.5 hours per week. (Job share/part time considered).

Main duties of the job
- Practice within defined clinical boundaries, working alongside clinical and educational supervisors in the role as a trainee.
- They will actively participate in clinical supervision to support them in their role. This will be provided by Oncology& Haematology department.
- They will complete departmental specific training requirements.
- Undertake and complete mandated academic and clinical learning.
- Work towards health promotion and prevention and comprehensively assess patients for risk factors and early signs of illness/disease/deterioration of chronic illness.
- Develop their practice to demonstrate the required knowledge in their decision- making to determine evidence-based therapeutic interventions, which will include prescribing medication where legally allowed and actively monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions. always working within their defined scope of practice as a tACP
- Work as part of the MDT to plan and manage complete episodes of care, working in partnership with others, delegating and referring as appropriate to optimise health outcomes and resource use, and provide direct support to patients/carers and clients.

- They should demonstrate that their practice is developing to an advanced level whereby upon progressing to the role of ACP they can directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within Oncology & Haematology.

Essential responsibilities will be agreed at an annual review of the job plan in accordance with Trust guidance for job planning for advanced and consultant practitioners which will ensure the tACP is able to meet the required pillars of advanced practice (NHS England 2019), enabling services to be designed and developed within the context of best use of resources, required service capacity and the individual professional development needs of the tACP.
- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, maintaining a high standard of clinical care and enhancing the patients experience within Oncology & Haematology.
- Uses specialist knowledge and specific training as an tACP to act as part of the MDT in the management of patients referred to the service, providing assessment, planning, and implementing a comprehensive management plan within a defined and approved scope of practice. This includes ordering and interpreting appropriate investigations where appropriate and assimilation of highly complex information to reach a potential differential diagnosis. The tACP, alongside the MDT, will determine a treatment/management plan in line with the diagnosis and any test results following local and national guidelines.
- Access Trust electronic/patient administration systems/ICE and paper systems for relevant clinical information, to assist with clinical prioritisation and patient management. This may include requesting, reviewing, interpreting investigations, chasing results, and reporting on any findings to relevant parties, according to agreed scope of practice.
- Develop extended investigative and advanced analytical skills to elicit a comprehensive assessment of patient history appropriate to the clinical situation, which will include presenting complaint, history of the present illness, past medical history, social history, family history, medications, and allergies, review of systems, risk factors and appropriate targeted history.
