Job summary

Applications are invited for a full-time consultant a within the busy head and neck unit at NNUH. The successful applicant would join a team of OMFS consultants and Oral surgeons and should have a special interest in deformity and orthognathic surgery.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provides Oral and Maxillofacial services across Norfolk through close links with adjacent trusts Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn and The James Paget hospital on the east coast. The head and neck catchment area covers a population of 1.4 million people and also includes Ipswich Hospital who merged with Colchester hospital to form the East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). This post would be primarily based at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with on-call, in patient operating and general clinics being performed there. Going forward there may be a need to conduct a peripheral clinic weekly in one of our adjacent hospitals but this will be discussed and agreed before any changes to the job plan are made.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.

All consultants, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust's Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.

There is full engagement from head and neck consultants in all lead specialties including Oncology, ENT and Plastic Surgery. We are well supported by Radiology, Histopathology, Speech and language therapists, tracheostomy specialist practitioners CNS and nutritionists. The MDT has an effective and collegiate approach to managing the patients.
