Job summary
24 month fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity
Provide clinical leadership and expertise in all aspects of haematological nursing, with emphasis on all aspects of the Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) service. Provide information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers. Act as a resource to the multi-professional team. Participate in the co-ordination of patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patient's care pathway. Act as main point of contact/liaison with external providers involved in the BMT process and follow up

Clinical
- To assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care for patients with haematological disorders in order to ensure that high standards of evidence-based care are provided.
- To provide information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers at all stages of the patients care pathway. This may be verbal and/or written.
- To act as a point of contact for patients, their families and carers, by attending outpatient clinics, the day unit and inpatient wards where necessary, and by other means of communication e.g. telephone and email.
- To act as the patients advocate, especially when discussing treatment options and possible involvement in clinical trials, so that patients can make an informed choice.
- To liaise closely with all members of the multi-professional team, including medical staff, ward Nurses and other Nurse Specialists, to ensure continuity of patient care.
Education and training
- To contribute to the education and training of the multi-professional team in all aspects of haematological nursing, with particular focus on transplantation.
- Liaise with the senior Nurses within the directorate to identify learning needs, and contribute to and participate in teaching programmes to address these needs, i.e. cytotoxic training.
- To develop educational links with other relevant areas both within the Trust and outside agencies, such as those in primary care and those responsible for providing academic learning e.g. UEA.
- Participate in the placements of multi-professional students, providing mentorship and/or clinical supervision where appropriate.
- Work in collaboration with senior Nurses to develop competency/assessment frameworks for clinical procedures, in relation to transplantation.
Line Management/Financial Management Responsibilities:
- Actively contribute to the review and development of relevant directorate policies, guidelines and protocols, with particular preference to the development of nursing in line with local and national developments.
- Prepare the monthly Finance reports for BMT.
- Act as a positive role model.
- Attend department and directorate meetings as appropriate.
