The Voluntary Services teams at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Kings Lynn) work with hundreds of amazing people who generously gift their time to support our staff, our patients, and their families.

Our volunteer programs are aligned to the strategies and operational objectives of the organisations but provide a unique non-clinical holistic dimension to hospital life which truly enhances the experience of all concerned.

The post is initially funded for one year and will be predominantly based at the NNUH but with a requirement to work across both sites.

Full time/job share, full time hours: 37.5 hrs pw.

Main duties of the job

As the successful post holder , you will co-design and co-produce a volunteer telephone project to support patients awaiting diagnostic radiology appointments to:

  • Ensure that patients are better prepared for their appointment and barriers to attendance are addressed
  • Reduce non-attendance and on the day cancellations among patients with upcoming appointments and the associated costs
  • Support better productivity for staff (particularly those involved with bookings and rotas)

You will be responsible for:

  • implementing, recruiting, managing and supervising volunteer teams to deliver the desired project outcomes.
  • conducting mandatory training and bespoke project specific training, for which you will provide ongoing mentoring and dedicated day to day supervision.
  • aligning the volunteer programme to the key objectives of both organisations and report into the patient experience and engagement board and the Norfolk and Waveney ICB.

This post is funded by the N&W ICB for one year so there is a need for the post holder to collect analytical data to support a continuing business case for permanent finding.

Job responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Voluntary Services Managers, the Radiology Teams and the bookings teams to co-ordinate the full implementation of a volunteer investment plan which ensures that all eligible patients are called prior to their diagnostic radiology appointment.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of radiology strategies which promotes and supports the inclusion of volunteers.
  • Align the volunteer programme to address barriers to accessing appointments to relieve DNAs (e.g. transport, gender preference, translator requirements, awareness of appointment options)
  • Work closely with all project stakeholders (clinical, nursing, medical, administrative staff and partners) to encourage and support service change and ensure buy-in throughout the project stages.
  • Support the design, measurement and delivery of project benefits, justification and progress to all key stakeholders and maintain a comprehensive system for monitoring action plans, checking timescales and preparing reports for committees as required.
