Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are looking for a qualified, highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic individual with a passion to provide excellent play support to become a hospital play assistant within the Jenny Lind Children's Hospital.

Under the direction and supervision of hospital play specialists the post holder(s) will participate as a member of the support services, providing and promoting play in the hospital environment. The Jenny Lind Children's Hospital incorporates Children's Inpatient, Emergency, Ambulatory and Outpatient care. The post holder will be required to work across all clinical areas within children's services.

We are committed to delivering the highest standard of patient care with play at the heart of what we do and are looking for a positive, flexible and motivated individual to work as a hospital play assistant. You will be required to work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the provision of play.

Following further discussion there will be occasions to enhance your knowledge and skills further through competency work. there will also be a prospect for the postholder to discuss training opportunities to undertake hospital play specialist training to cover the need of the service we offer.

In post, you will be expected to work 12 hour shifts, covering days, weekends, bank holidays and late finishes ( 21.30) but there is some flexibility which can be discussed at the interview.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be required to assist in creating a child focused environment where play occurs naturally at all times, working in conjunction with the play specialists.
  • Opportunity to provide age appropriate group and individual playroom and bedside activities to children in our care
  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of play services within the hospital.
  • Opportunity to discuss training to undertake hospital play specialist training.
