Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen as the Head of the Clinical Engineering Department and MDSO at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, (NNUHFT).

The Clinical Engineering Department directly and indirectly maintains the 24,000 medical devices within the NNUHFT and Cromer Hospitals.

The post holder will be managerially responsible for all aspects of the service at the N&N and should in addition be able to provide advice to other areas of the NHS if so required.

To manage effectively delegated budgets. Maintain effective control within the allocated resources and ensure delivery of cost-effective services in accordance statutory requirements and best practice.

The post holder will report directly to the Service Operations Manager.

Main duties of the job

The Trust's Clinical Engineering Department provides a service to the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH).

Accordingly, this post carries lead responsibility for the development, quality assurance, safety and compliance with the standards set out by the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as well as other guiding principles of the NHS or Clinical Engineering governing bodies e.g. IPEM.

  • To support the Trust in the provision of expert advice and leadership in relation to the management and procurement of healthcare technologies.
  • To lead and manage the Clinical Engineering Department.
  • To manage the Trusts Medical Devices.
  • To ensure that Trust medical devices are maintained, serviced and repaired, to comply with relevant legislation and manufacturers requirements and to mitigate service risk and interruption.
  • To lead on service planning, and the planning and shaping of the Department for the future.
  • To train and develop staff in the management and safe use of medical devices.
  • To carry lead responsibility for developing and maintaining a comprehensive Clinical Engineering Service.
  • To be responsible for the standards of service in Clinical Engineering through regular monitoring and quality assurance of staff performance and procedures.
  • To maintain safety and performance by involving Clinical Engineering in compliance with national and local standards, including the preparation of appropriate policies and procedures.
  • To develop corporate policies for the Trust on matters relating to medical equipment management and other aspects of clinical engineering.
  • To act as the budget manager for the Clinical Engineering Department.
