Job summary
The Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) Team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital are looking to recruit band 6 Registered staff (Staff Nurses / ODPs) to join their busy team.
PACU is placed in the Main Theatre Suite (of 17 theatres) and has 24 bays (including 4 paediatric). We support activity in the Day Procedure Unit, two Obstetric Theatres, MRI / CT (for patients having had general anaesthesia) and the Brachytherapy Suite. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (nurse, ODPs, HCAs, TSWs, medical staff) you will care for adults and children in the immediate post-anaesthetic / surgical phase.
The ability to communicate in a personable, approachable and respectful manner to individuals from inside and outside the organisation is essential to building the relationships needed to promote safe working practices - 'Human Factors' training has been introduced throughout the Trust as a mandatory requirement, to enhance our clinical performance through understanding the effects of teamwork.
We provide a supportive orientation programme - all trainees work In a supernumerary capacity alongside an assigned mentor until assessed as being competent to work independently - therefore a high level of supervisory skills are required.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supporting the Clinical Leader in providing leadership and effective management and co-ordination of patient activity, staffing and utilisation throughout the patient's operative pathway, in order to promote a patient centred approach to high quality health care whilst upholding and influencing professional and Trust values:
- Managerial aptitude and knowledge of hospital policy and procedure.
- High level of clinical skill set appropriate to the department.
- Outstanding communication skills
- Act as a resource to support the team
- Risk assessment skills and knowledge for the area.
You will also support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture.
Mentorship Preparation certificate or teaching equivalent and enhanced practice skills would be an advantage. Previous experience in an acute area would be preferable.
