Job summary
Loddon Ward is a busy inpatient ward, caring for elderly people, this ward also includes OPAC (Older People's Ambulatory Care) and OPED (Older Peoples Emergency Department). We are currently recruiting for a deputy sister/ charge nurse position. This role requires a versatile individual to support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare. We will expect you to share our passion for achieving excellence in the care of our patients. As well as coordinating on the inpatient ward, you will also work shifts in OPED and OPAC. In OPED you will be running a 6-patient area during the day, along with OPM consultants, doctors and ACP's.
We are looking to appoint someone to work 37.5 hours per week spread across the week, including some Nights and weekends.
Main duties of the job
The deputy sister role requires you to take charge of the clinical area and to monitor the clinical activities of the nursing team in the absence of the Ward Sister. To ensure that all staff adhere to Trust policies and the principles of their professional body. As well as minimize risk, be responsible for bed management and use leadership skills to create an environment that is safe and supportive to ensure effective teamwork and a motivated, efficient workforce.
As post holder you will be expected to undertake a range of duties including:
- Carry out the daily personal care of patients
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.
- To minimise hazards in the working area and report any identifiable hazards to the line manager. To adhere to all safe systems of work applicable to the work area.
- Assist in the facilitation of a system of clinical supervision.
- To manage complaints in accordance with the Trust's Complaints Procedure.
- Conduct staff appraisal using constructive performance review and establish Personal Development Plans
- Actively assist with the identification of performance issues and initiate action, as required, in conjunction with the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
- To monitor the clinical activities of the nursing team and support workers in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister / Charge Nurse.
