Job summary

Radiology is an ever-expanding department, including a wide variety of modalities such as CT, MRI and Ultrasound. In the autumn of 2020, we also opened the new Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology (NCIR). A wide range of Vascular and Non-vascular interventional procedures are currently performed at the NNUH, and the ambition is to expand these services to be at the cutting edge of IR developments. Radiology also provides a Vascular Access Team - which is a bed side PICC and Mid-line service.

We are looking for a Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner to join our established Radiology team, to work on a rotational basis across all areas of Radiology: CT/MRI, Ultra-Sound, Interventional Radiology and the Vascular Access Team.

Under the direction of the registered practitioners (this refers to qualified registered nurses, ODPs and Radiographers) to provide high quality care, safe and compassionate for patients attending the Radiology department and the vascular access team for varying procedures and examinations within a multi-disciplinary framework. Consistently demonstrating NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity and Excellence.

Main duties of the job

Vascular Access:

The Vascular Access Team provides a vascular access service to the entire Trust. We insert PICCs and Midlines across all areas, in both inpatients and outpatients. Where possible, lines are inserted at the patient's bedside using Sherlock 3CG technology. We also respond to problems with lines, e.g. blockages and migration issues and offer advice and support to ward staff.

Interventional Radiology:

Interventional Radiology is a highly advanced and rapidly expanding field of modern medicine. Through the use of state-of-the-art real time imaging equipment, we are able to perform a wide variety of treatments using minimally-invasive techniques. Procedures range from non-cardiac angioplasty and stenting to the insertion of central access lines, feeding tubes, drains and even the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, targeted chemotherapy treatments and controlling internal bleeding. The patients we treat are referred to us from multiple medical specialties including vascular surgery, oncology, gastroenterology, and urology.

Main Radiology:

The radiology department offers services which comprise of plain film x ray, ultrasound and CT and MRI scans for both inpatients and outpatients. We offer a wide range of procedures both diagnostic and therapeutic, ensuring our patients have the best possible care during their journey through our department.
