Consultant in Neurophysiology
This job is now closed
Job summary
This is a substantive whole-time consultant appointment (10PA) split between two established departments of clinical neurophysiology (NNUH and CUH). The PA split is 7-3 to NNUH. The post is required to maintain current and projected service requirements and to extend the scope of both departments.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed, the job content will be modified, as appropriate, in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.
We welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Additionally, people with disabilities will be offered an interview providing they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The Trust operates job share and flexible working.
The AAC panel will meet on 23rd January 2024
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be based at the NNUH, with one day a week in CUH. The appointee will be provided with an office/consulting room and secretarial support which may be shared. The post-holder will have a dedicated computer with internet access.
Although the post is predominantly a general clinical neurophysiology post, the appointee would be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest clinic and this would be supported. Expertise or interest in EEG video telemetry or neuromuscular disease would be an advantage, but not essential, as would expertise in botulinum toxin injections. The job plan includes 4 nerve conduction clinics and 4 EEG/NCS reporting sessions per week.
The general Clinical Neurophysiology clinics will contain 4 to 6 patient slots based on clinical experience. Ward referrals which average at about 2 to 4 per week are generally seen outside routine outpatient clinic periods often in conjunction with the Specialty trainee.
EEG reporting and technician nerve conduction study reporting sessions are required and there is provision of time for management, teaching, audit and appraisal.
The appointee may also be required to contribute to the neurophysiology service at the James Paget University Hospital. At present this requires the provision of outpatient and emergency inpatient service performed wholly on site at NNUH. The service is under review from time to time according to service requirements
