Job summary

An exciting new full time opportunity is open to experienced Orthopaedic Practitioners at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with significant experience in managing patients with problematic knee replacements and complex knee revision surgery.

As part of a regional transformation, the NNUH has become a Complex Knee Revision Hub expanding our provision for complex knee revision patients. The successful applicant will be key in leading and shaping this service in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

This new role will sit alongside the established knee surgery service at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital which currently consists of 5 Orthopaedic Consultants, 1 knee fellow, 2 specialty registrars, a Consultant Microbiologist, Orthopaedic Surgical Care Practitioners, Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioners, Allied Healthcare Professionals and the Ward Teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will help establish a new innovative programme of national clinical change, which is led by the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) in conjunction with NHS England and Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT).

The successful applicant will hold the budget for the knee revision project, be responsible for co-ordinating revision knee referrals from spoke hospitals within the region to provide a centralised system of care for these patients. This will involve managing the regional MDT, setting up referral pathways and liaising with regional Orthopaedic departments.

The successful candidate will be involved in the whole patient pathway from referral to discharge ensuring high quality care and pathways are maintained and developed for both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. They will develop their skills and review patients within the complex knee clinic, in-patient care and follow up clinics, increasing their level of autonomous practice as their capability increases under the clinical supervision of the lead consultant for knee revision.

You will also work with spoke hospitals within the region enabling aligned practice, standards and pathways for patients.

The Orthopaedic service at the Norfolk and Norwich is a busy regional trauma centre and forward-thinking department offering a range of elective and trauma care to the local community. We currently employ over 35 Orthopaedic Consultants, some with international recognition in their specialties and employ 34 practitioners who are a combination of Nurse Practitioners, Surgical Care Practitioners and Specialist pharmacists. Patients are cared for on 2 dedicated Orthopaedic wards and within a dynamic outpatient department.
