The Research and Development department at NNUH is growing and this includes the Norwich Research Park (NRP) Biorepository (Tissue Bank) - a central component in facilitating and supporting world leading research. We support researchers at institutes across the NRP, including the Quadram Institute and the University of East Anglia, and national and international partners.
The Norwich Research Park Biorepository is an invaluable resource for clinical research. It is a resources of human tissue samples, provided by consenting patients, for studies into the causes and treatments of diseases.

Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a friendly and enthusiastic person to join the Norwich Research Park Biorepository team. The role involves working alongside clinicians and nurses to support our work in the NNUH Gastroenterology department based at the Quadram Institute, one of the largest endoscopy centres in Europe.
We are looking for a person with excellent communication skills and can demonstrate a strong attention to detail. You will work with the multidisciplinary team to consent patients and assist in specimen collections. This role involves accurately recording information and logging of samples for research projects, and therefore requires a strong attention to detail and good IT skills. You will have an organized and methodical approach to your work, always ensuring the highest level of confidentiality.
Along with the Biorepository team, you will also help with the day to day running of the department, working effectively to support research teams across the Norwich Research Park.
Although previous laboratory experience is desirable, full training in all aspects of the job will be provided in house in accordance with the department training policy.
You will be working within a varied, dynamic environment within a supportive team.
There will be the opportunity to develop IT, research administration and laboratory sample management skills and the opportunity to support world leading research led by internationally renowned scientists

- To receive and check specimens of human tissue etc., upon arrival at the Biorepository, ensuring correct paperwork
- To assist in sample preparation for the Biorepository
- To regularly handle unfixed fresh tissue and potentially infectious material in accordance with departmental policies. Fresh tissue could include samples from whole organs, biopsies, blood, faeces, urine etc.
- To ensure correct patient or Biorepository ID on both matching forms and specimens
- To assist in solving day-to-day problems including incorrectly labelled specimens, follow appropriate quality and error logging procedures in the event of an incident. Communicate with the Biorepository manager regarding such incidences
- To give specimens and forms a unique Biorepository number
- To work towards proficiency in biomedical procedures including wax sectioning of paraffin embedded tissue
