Job summary

Older Peoples medicine (OPM) is a specialty that has evolved. We hold the first Older People's Emergency Department (OPED) that provides emergency care to patients. Older Peoples Ambulatory Care (OPAC) works alongside OPED and our short stay ward Loddon to provide same day emergency care and short stay medicine.

We have 4 additional wards: Brundall & Dunston are acute Wards that care for patients requiring a prolonged stay due to complex medical conditions and discharge planning. Elsing is an acute ward caring for patients with complex cognitive impairment and delirium. Earsham is an ortho-medical ward providing care for patients who are over 65 years who have had a fractured neck of femur with a background of multiple comorbidities.

We pride ourselves on our multi-disciplinary team working to provide every patient with a high standard of individualised care with safe discharging. We provide high standard of care and support to patients and their families at the end of their life.

It is a great specialty to start a career in nursing and for those looking for a new challenge as it offers opportunities to care for patients with many medical conditions. There are also more opportunities; training to become Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Educators and specialist nurses in Dementia Palliative care and Parkinson's.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with all members of the ward team clinical team within the multidisciplinary framework. Maintain a high standard of patients care under the direction of the ward Sister.

Act as a leader in the clinical area, in the absence of more senior members of staff. To work in accordance with the principles set out by the Nursing professional bodies and Trust Policies.

To support the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate health care service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate the NNUH Pride values.

There is the opportunity to work in one area or a rotational post in the areas of your choice.

We will offer the opportunity to undertake our 18-month preceptorship programme.

There will be the opportunity to attend development courses relevant to the specialty and on-site training including our new dementia training for 2023.

You will be supported to complete enhanced clinical skills and gain competency on the wards.
