Junior Clinical Fellows - Fixed term 12 month posts available
Do you want to work in the UK's first Older People's Emergency Department?
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital are recruiting motivated Clinical Fellows to support our Older People's Medicine (OPM) directorate.
From our work on Frailty identification and interventions, we have redesigned our services and are looking to recruit doctors who share our passion for innovation in the way we treat Older People. These post(s) will be in Geriatric medicine working in the Older People's Emergency Department (OPED).
Main duties of the job
Our service is multifaceted and offers opportunities in all aspects of older people's care. We have a dedicated Older People's Emergency Department (OPED) for patients of 80 years and over. This consultant led service allows early identification of frailty and tailored expert intervention, alongside a rapid MDT way of working. The service has been responsible for a significant decrease in our ED conversion rates for frail elderly and a drop in our hospital average length of stay and HMSR.
We have an active outpatient service in order to expedite specialist early intervention for our older population and avoid unnecessary admissions to the acute setting by seeing emergency referrals within 48hrs. We also offer specialist movement disorder and falls clinics. As part of our Frailty service we have developed a surgical liaison service, with the intention that this is rolled out to provide Frailty reviews for patients under the care of the general medical teams.
The directorate has responsibility for five acute OPM wards encompassing short stay, an ortho-geriatric unit, a specialist dementia care ward, as well as rehabilitation within the local community hospitals.
A career in Older People's Medicine at our Trust offers you the chance to part of a progressive team who have a shared passion for providing the best possible care to patients when they need it most. If you're interested, we would encourage you to apply or call to find out more.
