Job summary
This is an opportunity to join the team within Radiotherapy Physics providing clinical scientific and physics services to the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology.
This post is a training position intended for those who don't have, but are intending to progress towards, HCPC registration. It is opened to applicants from university graduates up to those already on Route 2. For applicants without a relevant Medical Physics MSc, funding has been approved to enrol on a 2-year part-time taught MSc from September 2023 (most likely in London) with additional funding available towards travel costs associated with attending the MSc.
The successful applicant would be expected to complete Route 2 training within the department and submit a portfolio of evidence to the ACS, and to attain HCPC registration. This route is expected to take around 4 years for those with little to no prior experience. Upon HCPC registration, a band 7 role will become available.
As post holder, you will:
- participate in all aspects of the Department's routine work for patients undergoing treatment using ionising radiation.
- attain an MSc whilst gaining experience in a clinical radiotherapy department.
- Work towards and attain ACS certification and HCPC registration
- participate in clinical projects that are designed to improve cancer treatments at the NNUH

Main duties of the job
Your duties will include:
- To assist in the provision of radiation dosimetry for all aspects of radiotherapy, i.e. treatment planning, machine dosimetry and brachytherapy.
- To participate in the Duty Treatment Planning, Duty Physics and Brachytherapy rotas.
- To assist in the development and introduction of new treatment techniques for patients undergoing external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy treatments.
- To assist with the commissioning of new equipment.
- To keep accurate records of patient treatments and measurements carried out on all Radiotherapy machines and equipment in line with the ISO9001:2015 quality system.
- To assist in participation in Regional and appropriate international Dosimetry Audits.
- To assist in clinical audit and clinical trials where appropriat
Full time: 37.5 hours per week. You will be expected to work shifts as part of an extended day working arrangement. Some weekend working may be required.

The department provides a comprehensive radiotherapy service to the people of Norfolk. The department has 5 TrueBeam linacs, 4 of which are less than 4 years old, with a further TrueBeam replacement planned for later this year into 2023.
The department benefits from two dedicated CT scanners, with one being replaced in late 2022.NNUH was the first site in the world to install a Bravos HDR machine in 2018 and we provide an active brachytherapy service. We operate a superficial treatment service as well as employing FFF and electrons across the fleet of linacs.
